Fellow Members

It is with great pleasure that I greet you at the start of the New Year. I wish you and your families’ health, happiness and prosperity for 2010.
We, at the Association of Surgeons of India have always believed in serving the society that we live in. A few years from now, I expect the Association to be much bigger than it is now. More importantly, I hope that it comes to be regarded as being trend setter surgical education, training & re-certification, and stronger to protect interests of all our members.

My Vision for the Association is - to play very active role, high quality health care system accessible and affordable for all in India. The Mission that would lead us to attain this would be to advocate for, lead and serve our members in their efforts to develop and sustain high quality health services.

The Purpose of the Association is four pronged:
1. To assist our members to improve their knowledge & skill.
2. To work with our members to improve the delivery of health care.
3. To influence the political, economic, social, and regulatory environment in ways which support the rational delivery of health care services.
4. To support our members in their personal moment of need.

I have also decided to start cancer registry at our head office. I seek cooperation of all of you to report all cases of cancer.(Format will be published in our journal) and is available on our site.
This will create huge database for research, treatment and health awareness programs etc.
This year we intend to focus on reforms on Medical Education & intend to lobby with various govt. agencies to modernize teaching methodology as well as content along with skill assessment at various stages of training. We firmly believe that surgical education should be more skill based than rote learning.
We are working on welfare schemes for members, unveil the same shortly to all of you.

2009 was a year of surprises and challenges and 2010 is not going to be any different. Friends, we have just begun. The opportunities in front of us are limitless, and there is a lot that needs to be done. Our success will depend upon how clear our focus is. It will depend upon our willingness, commitment, and personal responsibility to succeed. As we move into the 2010, I have no doubt that with a well concerted and integrated effort, we shall succeed.
Once again, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy and happy New Year.

"Jai Hind
Jai ASI"

Warm regards,
Dr. N.K. Pandey
